I have been doing some research of aircraft piston engines like the Lycoming and Continentals. In short, they all seem to be constructed like oversized lawnmower engines. Why does all of the technology in them seem outdated compared to other modern engines? It seems like they just started putting a fuel injection system in and oil filteration is optional (that sounds safe). I've heard alot of them aren't even balanced right. Plus all of this adds up from $35g to $60g, why are they so exspensive?
